Tribute to America’s First Sit-Down Comic

Welcome to the tribute site for Gene Mitchener, America’s first sit-down comic. Gene went to school in Auburn, Indiana and became the “class clown” using comedy to put people at ease regarding his disability. He later used his comedy skills in comedy clubs throughout the country as a sit-down comic. After a successful comedy career, Gene became a highly sought after motivational speaker motivating people to reach their goals. He was featured in numerous television shows, newspaper and magazine articles, all with one purpose in mind, that we are all handicapped in one way or another so let’s learn to accept each other and get on with living life.
